MICHELLE CEBALLOS
Dancer/Choreographer
Michele Ceballos an accomplished artistic director, educator, choreographer,
and dancer. Her dance performance history includes numerous international
ballet companies and dance productions. Additionally, she has been a pivotal
figure in the Phoenix arts advocacy for over 13 years.
Prior her 1987 arrival in Phoenix, Ceballos danced professionally in
Colombia, England, Germany, Russia, and throughout South American and
the United States. As a student, Ceballos toured with The Saddlers Wells
Royal Ballet.
Born in New York, Ceballos began studying ballet at the age of six in
Bogota, Colombia under exiled dancer Vladimir Volski of the Bolshoi Ballet.
A recipient of several scholarships, Ceballos continued her studies in
New York City at Thalia Mara’s, The National Academy of Ballet &
Theatre Arts, and George Balanchine’s School of American Ballet/The
American Ballet Theatre. She joined The Royal Ballet School in London
at sixteen, where she spent two years studying under the sponsorship of
Margot Fonteyn.
In 1990, Ceballos founded Opendance (OD), a multicultural dance company
performing in established theatrical venues as well as in community settings.
OD company members are listed on the Artist Roster of the Arizona Commission
for the Arts; additionally, OD has an outreach division that conducts
educational programs for children throughout Arizona.
